Your development decision
Describe surface fibre coverage using physical references and check how the appearance changes during cutting, pressing and wear.
Keep the finish separate from the base cloth
Surface raising and related finishing operations affect the appearance of a woven fabric. Ask for the actual finish description and inspect the underlying structure. Surface hair alone cannot establish fibre composition, yarn route or a performance value.
Use consistent light and views
Photograph the face in normal and angled light, then the reverse and a close view. Keep the same sample direction and camera distance when comparing candidates. Label each view; changes of light should not be presented as different fabric references.
Give touch words a reference
Soft, dry, smooth and full can mean different things to different reviewers. Ask the team to handle the same identified sample and explain which face and contact area are being assessed. Record an agreed reference rather than relying on a superlative.
Check direction before cutting
Turn the sample and inspect directional reflection or fibre lay. Ask the maker whether one-way cutting is needed for the garment and matching pieces. Any effect on yield should be confirmed with an actual marker using the proposed width.
Inspect trial pieces after making
Review pressing at lapels, pocket edges, hems and thick joins. Compare the face before and after the actual trial process. Record any flattening, shine, colour appearance or touch change, with the process and sample version.
Include relevant rubbing locations
Look at cuffs, elbows, seat, pocket openings and contact from bags or other garments. A wear observation is useful context but not a universal test result. State required laboratory evidence separately and ask Fred for the applicable sample information.
Working review record
Scroll the table horizontally on small screens.
| Review point | What to record | Next decision |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Supplier reference, yarn route and finish | Confirm the proposed cloth |
| Appearance | Face, reverse, direction and lighting | Choose a sample to trial |
| Specification | Composition, weight unit and width | Resolve missing fields |
| Garment | Equivalent sewn section and observations | Revise the brief |
Before the next sample round
- Label the actual sample and date
- Keep desired effects separate from confirmed facts
- Agree the next trial and evidence request
