Your development decision
Choose full, partial or unlined construction through contact, movement, making and care trials with the proposed materials.
Map the lining coverage
Record full, half, local or no lining and the areas covered. Trousers, jackets and coats use different constructions. Identify which shell areas touch skin, underlayers or another garment.
Review dressing and movement
Trial the intended lining for putting on, taking off and normal movement. Note contact at knees, sleeves, shoulders and waist. Record static or friction experiences as actual observations for that combination.
Check joins and edges
Sew representative attachment seams, hems and any exposed seam finish. Inspect thickness, flexibility and appearance. The maker should confirm construction and allowance details for the chosen lining plan.
Coordinate dimensional behaviour
Review shell and lining under the intended making and care process. Measure the same locations before and afterwards. A lining change can affect an earlier garment approval and should be recorded as a new construction version.
Compare equivalent garments
Where alternatives matter, use the same pattern and shell reference with the compared lining plans. Keep the wearer and trial activity consistent. Explain which difference comes from the lining system rather than assigning it to cloth alone.
Confirm the final system
Include lining composition or reference, coverage, construction and care target in the brief. Have the garment team review the complete system. Request cloth information from Fred for that intended use and retain unresolved component questions.
A practical development example
A trouser team compares local lining with more extensive coverage. Use the same shell reference, pattern and wear activity to understand the difference. Keep knee and waist contact observations separate from seam and dimensional review. Confirm the chosen system after the agreed care trial.
