WOOL FLANNEL · FRED TEXTILE

Test the Fabric in the Garment You Plan to Make

Use the intended pattern, construction and care to record what actually happens to an identified flannel sample.

Your development decision

Use the intended pattern, construction and care to record what actually happens to an identified flannel sample.

Plan a representative trial

Use the garment and construction the programme intends to make. Include support, lining, thread, closures and relevant pattern details. Mark any difference between the trial and intended production so the observation is not applied beyond its scope.

Record material and garment identity

Keep the supplier reference, cloth version, garment sample version, received date and relevant specification together. Mark fabric direction on trial pieces. Photograph the starting appearance and name the points that will be measured or observed.

Begin with sewing and pressing

Trial the loaded seams, joined layers, pockets, lapels or hem before committing all sample material. The maker should record equipment and process conditions. Compare the face, thickness and dimensions before and after this operation.

Review the actual wearing task

Agree the wearer, underlayers, activity and duration. Trousers need seat and knee review; jackets need front and sleeve movement; coats need layering and hem behaviour. Use the same sequence and rest period when comparing candidates.

Include an agreed care process

Check the complete garment with its components under the intended process. Record dimensions, colour, surface and touch before and afterwards. A supplier suggestion is an input to trial planning, not automatic validation of every lining and support combination.

Decide what the observation supports

Use not checked, acceptable for this trial or discuss. The middle status records a reviewer’s judgement on this sample; it is not laboratory certification or bulk approval. List next tests, changes and responsible reviewers before moving to the next stage.

Before the next sample round

  • Use one dated revision
  • Identify the cloth and garment
  • Keep approval scope explicit
  • Carry unresolved questions to the next round
