Your development decision
State a worsted-spun requirement clearly, confirm supply feasibility and compare the proposed reference in your tailoring construction.
Separate yarn preparation from final finish
Worsted refers to a yarn-processing route involving fibre preparation and combing. Flannel describes the finished cloth direction. The route does not remove the need to confirm weave, composition and surface finish, and it does not establish an automatic quality rank.
Look at the proposed surface
Compare the visible structure, fibre coverage and face-to-reverse difference on physical cuttings. Ask how the mill describes the finish. A smooth photograph cannot confirm worsted-spun yarn, and a raised surface cannot alone identify a woolen-spun route.
Describe the tailoring objective
For trousers, explain the line, pleats, lining and intended movement. For a jacket, include front support, lapels and sleeve construction. Ask for a panel or trial length that answers those questions rather than choosing a yarn label as a substitute for the garment brief.
Keep comparable sample conditions
Review samples of similar dimensions and direction under the same lighting. Sew equivalent sections with the same lining or support where practical. Record whether a result comes from a flat cutting, hanging panel or complete garment so the evidence is compared fairly.
Request specification and trial evidence
Ask for reference identity, composition, weight and width with units and the declared finish. Where a test is needed, agree the method and acceptance requirement for that reference. Garment comfort and silhouette still require their own review.
Confirm feasibility with Fred
Educational coverage of worsted flannel does not declare a stocked Fred range. Send the fixed yarn-route requirement, physical reference and intended quantity. Ask what can be proposed and whether an alternative direction could answer the same garment task.
Working review record
Scroll the table horizontally on small screens.
| Review point | What to record | Next decision |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Supplier reference, yarn route and finish | Confirm the proposed cloth |
| Appearance | Face, reverse, direction and lighting | Choose a sample to trial |
| Specification | Composition, weight unit and width | Resolve missing fields |
| Garment | Equivalent sewn section and observations | Revise the brief |
Before the next sample round
- Label the actual sample and date
- Keep desired effects separate from confirmed facts
- Agree the next trial and evidence request
