Your development decision
Consider recycled content with traceable composition, appropriate documents and the same garment checks used for other candidates.
Define the content requirement
State which recycled fibre is required, the target percentage and whether it is fixed or open for discussion. Ask for the complete composition of a candidate. A recycled material programme does not establish the composition of every cloth shown on a website.
Discuss colour and surface together
Mixed raw-material colour and finishing choices can influence the proposed visual direction. Show the target on an approved sample and ask how the proposed colour will be developed. Confirm the actual process and lot arrangements rather than assuming a permanent repeatable shade.
Compare physical garment behaviour
Assess touch, folds, seams and surface changes on identified material. Use comparable sample dimensions and the same garment construction. Recycled content is one specification; it does not automatically establish strength, comfort or resistance to surface wear.
Check documents for the proposal
Where a recycled or certification claim is required, ask for the document holder, scope, validity and relevant transaction evidence. Connect the claim to the fabric and order concerned. A company-level document does not by itself approve a particular product statement.
Plan how the brand will describe the cloth
Keep the proposed wording with the supporting documents and obtain the appropriate brand review before publishing a claim. If a required record is missing, retain the statement as a question. Do not replace missing evidence with a general sustainability slogan.
Request a feasible sample programme
Give Fred the garment, composition requirement, colour reference, quantity and document needs. Ask what can be confirmed for an actual candidate and which checks the sample round should resolve. Review alternatives on the same basis.
Working review record
Scroll the table horizontally on small screens.
| Review point | What to record | Next decision |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Supplier reference, yarn route and finish | Confirm the proposed cloth |
| Appearance | Face, reverse, direction and lighting | Choose a sample to trial |
| Specification | Composition, weight unit and width | Resolve missing fields |
| Garment | Equivalent sewn section and observations | Revise the brief |
Before the next sample round
- Label the actual sample and date
- Keep desired effects separate from confirmed facts
- Agree the next trial and evidence request
