Your development decision
Choose relevant properties from the garment and buyer specification, then agree methods, sample identity and acceptance criteria.
Collect the actual requirement
Start from garment use, buyer specification and market-related requirements. Record the source and revision of each mandatory point. Educational checklists provide questions, not universal passing values for your programme.
Prioritise the properties
Appearance, dimensional change, strength, seam behaviour and colourfastness are different tasks. Identify which can be reviewed in a garment trial and which need a laboratory method. Avoid requesting an undefined all-tests package.
Agree method and conditions
Record method, direction, preparation, sample quantity and acceptance criterion with the technical team and laboratory. If a field is unknown, leave it for discussion. A method identifier without relevant conditions may be incomplete.
Identify the material tested
Keep supplier reference, colour, version or lot, and date with the laboratory request. Confirm how the material was selected. A report should remain connected to that identity rather than being reused as a general company claim.
Read the report in scope
Review result, method and conditions against the agreed buyer requirement. A successful laboratory result does not replace every garment wearing observation. Keep care, construction and subjective preferences with their own evidence.
Arrange the next step
Confirm fees, timing, sample amount and responsibility for submission. Record open tests and who will review the results. Ask Fred what applicable evidence already exists for a candidate before arranging duplicate work.
A practical development example
A buyer asks for a durable trouser fabric without a test plan. Translate that request into specific garment areas and required properties, then agree relevant methods and acceptance criteria with the technical team. Request current applicable evidence before arranging new testing, and retain the actual reference and scope.
