Your development decision
Choose colourfastness questions around the garment and care, then check report method, rating and sample identity.
Select the relevant property
Rubbing, perspiration, washing, dry cleaning and light exposure are different colourfastness questions. The intended garment and care help determine which matter. Do not use a report for one process as proof for all others.
Consider colour combinations
Deep shell colours and lighter linings or adjacent panels may raise specific transfer concerns. Record the actual materials and contact. Review the full garment combination where required instead of judging a cloth shade in isolation.
Identify the tested colour
A report should identify the sample or reference, colour, date and applicable lot or version. Evidence from another colour or changed finish needs review before being applied. Ask the supplier to clarify the scope.
Read conditions with the rating
Method, test conditions and rating basis belong together. Have the technical team relate them to the buyer specification. An isolated “good colourfastness” phrase or unexplained number cannot define acceptance.
Request evidence when missing
List the required test and sample quantity, with method and acceptance criterion if known. Leave missing fields open for agreement. A visual shade approval does not imply colourfastness has been tested.
Connect the decision to specification
Keep the agreed requirement and applicable report with the fabric revision. State what is approved and what remains unresolved before ordering. Revisit relevant evidence if colour, finish or care changes.
A practical development example
A dark shell is combined with a light lining. Ask which transfer or care-related colourfastness requirement matters to that system. Identify the tested colour and method and keep visual shade approval separate. If the current report addresses another process, list the missing evidence before approval.

|---|---|---|
| Relevant rubbing or cleaning exposure | Record the actual value, conditions and source | Keep this point open until reviewed |
| Dark/light adjacent components | Record the actual value, conditions and source | Keep this point open until reviewed |
| Method, condition and rating | Record the actual value, conditions and source | Keep this point open until reviewed |
| Report sample, colour and date | Record the actual value, conditions and source | Keep this point open until reviewed |
