WOOL FLANNEL · FRED TEXTILE

Choose Flannel for Skirt Shape and Wear

Review flannel skirt shape, folds, movement, waistband and lining on the intended pattern.

Your development decision

Review flannel skirt shape, folds, movement, waistband and lining on the intended pattern.

Start with the silhouette

Describe a straight, flared, pleated or wrapped skirt, its length and the desired movement. Include closure, waistband and hem details. A wide moving skirt requires a different hanging review from a close-fitting straight style.

Compare folds in the intended direction

Use panels large enough to represent the pattern and any pleats. Mark the fabric direction and view from the front and side. Record how the fold or hem differs from your approved reference instead of labelling the cloth simply as good drape.

Trial the waist and closure

Sew the waistband, zip or wrap overlap with the proposed support. Inspect joined-layer thickness and contact against the wearer. Keep the making and pressing conditions with the trial so a construction adjustment can be evaluated on the same basis.

Decide the contact and lining plan

Record where the shell touches skin or other clothing and what lining is intended. Trial walking, sitting and dressing with the actual layers. Touch and static experience are observations for that wearer and construction, not universal fibre guarantees.

Review the hem after making and care

Inspect the turned hem, seam joins and pleat appearance before and after the agreed care trial. Measure the same locations. Review surface and colour alongside dimensional change so the approval covers the appearance you plan to sell.

Send a pattern-specific sample request

Tell Fred the silhouette, length, lining and important folds or seams. Include the target surface, known specification and expected quantity. Ask for enough identified trial material to compare the planned pattern and record unresolved questions.

Before the next sample round

  • Identify cloth and garment sample versions
  • Record construction and lining
  • Photograph the same areas before and after
  • Keep missing evidence as not checked
  • List open questions for Fred
