Your development decision
Plan comfort around environment, activity, layers and garment construction; ask for specific evidence where a measured claim matters.
Describe the wearing situation
Record climate or indoor conditions, activity, intended layers and wear duration as buyer inputs. These details explain the comfort task. They do not generate a guaranteed fabric weight or temperature rating.
Consider the whole construction
Cloth thickness, construction and finishing combine with lining, fit, openings and trapped air in a garment. Review the actual sample with intended layers. GSM alone cannot establish the wearing experience.
Distinguish property questions
Air permeability, moisture transfer and thermal resistance describe different measurements. Ask which property is relevant before seeking a report. One test result should not be presented as proof of every comfort claim.
Review fit and ventilation
The garment’s ease, closure, cuffs and lining affect how it is worn. Include reaching, walking or sitting appropriate to the use. Record the conditions and wearer’s observation rather than judging cloth in isolation.
Define evidence for a claim
If the project requires a numerical performance statement, agree the method, tested construction and acceptance criterion with the technical team. Tie the result to the sample concerned. Leave unavailable evidence open.
Use a comparable wearing trial
Compare candidates under the same agreed activity and layers. Note differences in experience and context. Ask Fred about relevant references and evidence without turning a general fibre description into a product guarantee.
A practical development example
A coat is intended for changing activity and several underlayers. Record the intended setting and trial the complete construction. If a quantified thermal or air-related claim is required, define that property and method separately. Do not convert a cloth weight into a guaranteed comfort temperature.
